The Heat is On is the second episode in the Next Best Junior Chef series. The three chefs, Caroline, Oliver, and Rae, compete against each other to win the final elimination round.

On the first day of the competition, Chef Gary, one of the judges, introduces them to his new pet dachshund, and they even get to suggest a name for her. Then the three judges tell them they must make a hot dog that matches the name they picked for the dog. Afterward they did a challenge where they switched family recipes, helped at a food pantry, and cooked for a girl’s quinceanera. They made cotton candy desserts and cookies filled with dulce de leche. More rounds and challenges follow, but when the kids get split up into teams of two and a special guest joins the show, everyone is very surprised!

I really enjoyed reading this book because it’s about one of my favorite things: cooking! I also liked that it had a few pictures here and there. My two favorite parts were the hot dog and the quinceanera challenge. I would recommend this book for ages nine and up.
