The Girl from the Sea
Molly Knox Ostertag has never disappointed with her engaging and heartfelt graphic novels and The Girl from the Sea is no exception! The characters and themes in this book were relatable and satisfying to watch develop. Morgan’s struggle with who she likes, and where she fits in with her friendship group, were especially comforting to me. Her questions are ones I feel like a lot of people can struggle with and feel happy to find a character they can relate to. The rest of the cast, like Keltie, Lizzie, Jules, Serena, and Morgan’s brother Aiden, are fun to watch develop, and some have their own little stories built into Morgan’s.
The story was well paced and fun to read. The art was fantastic and the character design was amazing. Everyone’s clothing is a reflection of their personality and it makes it easy to figure out what they’re like. Some of the design choices are explained at the end of the book, and you can tell a lot of thought went into them! Overall, I’d recommend this book to younger and older readers alike; it’s a great book to come back to!
