Max Monroe the detective is investigating a case where his favorite author needs his help. Someone had slipped a note in her purse that said, “Beware the dirty trick!” So Max has to go around finding clues. He figures out that the person who had put the note in the author’s purse was the author’s helper, but she was just trying to warn her about other people who were going to play a dirty trick. So then Max had to figure out what the dirty trick was going to be.

Max’s Uncle Larry, is a ghost who goes around with Max. Uncle Larry wanted to be a detective but in this book he wasn’t really a good help; he doesn’t really do anything except sit around and eat a sandwich. But Uncle Larry drives a motorcycle with a sidecar for Max.

This book is a fun mystery. I like trying to solve the mysteries before Max and Uncle Larry do. There are a couple pictures, which I like, but not very many, but you can see what is going on in your mind while you are reading it. This book is easy to read and lots of fun!
