Game of Lives by James Dashner is the third in a trilogy about a teenager named Michael who is trying to stop a “tangent” named Kaine. Kaine used the mortality doctrine to download tangents into the minds of humans because he was going to give humans immortality. Kaine stopped doing it because he saw that VirtNet Security (VNS), which controls the virtual reality world called VirtNet, gave them the true death. It turns out that Kaine is actually a good guy. Kaine joins Michael to defeat the VNS. Michael is really drawn into the fight when the VNS kills his girlfriend Sarah. The plot was very intriguing and the flow of the book is very nice. The moral of the story is to never judge a character by what they appear to be. I would definitely recommend this book to people that are 12+. It was a great book and is full of excitement but does get really sad and should not be read by the overly emotional. I like this quote from the book because it gets to me. “It doesn’t add up,” Michael whispered, turning everything over in his mind. “Not at all.” I like this quote because Michael is completely confused and is very emotional and this shows when Michael is figuring out that Kaine may not be the bad guy.
