Chess was a tetherboy, which means a boy or person who dives in the Fog who searches for stuff to sell. The Fog was made by little tiny robots who were constructed to destroy all pollution, and since humans create all pollution, the nanobots decided the humans were a type of pollution too. The Fog was made to kill off the humans so that nature can survive.

Chess was born in the Fog and had something called ‘the Fog-eye’, which means the Fog is his friend, but no other children were known to have survived being born in the Fog. There is a man called Lord Kodoc, who is trying to find a legendary machine that is thought to shut down the Fog. Kodoc thinks that if he can find that machine, he will be able to control the world.

This book was exciting. It was a cautionary tale, because it was about advanced technology and what might happen to the earth if we don’t take care of it. It was thrilling to read about the danger that stalked the pages of this book. This was a great book full of action and suspense that you are sure to love!
