The Far Dawn: Book Three of the Atlanteans
Owen and Lilly are looking for more keys to their Atlantean past, so they head across the polluted world to an Atlantean capital, where they meet their arch-nemesis, Paul. In the subsequent panic, Owen is killed and Lilly abducted. Now in limbo, Owen learns secrets of his past and the only way he can change his future from a mystical Earth goddess. If Owen is to save the world, and Lilly, he must use his courage and be brave to defeat Paul for good.
This book is really depressing. You empathize with Owen but you wish he’d be a stronger character. He is definitely human, and flawed, but his poor choices lead to a lot of tragedy. Lilly is his opposite – always cheerful and optimistic – but her worldview can’t save her. The plot too was kind of gray, like Owen – apathetic and episodic, like just being blown about by the winds of fate, hoping for something to happen that will get him closer to saving Lilly. To me, it was a completely unsatisfying conclusion to this series.
