The Door Before (100 Cupboards Prequel)
The Door Before is the prequel to the 100 Cupboards series, and it is amazing! It is so well written that I devoured it in a day and have already requested the rest of the series from the library! You don’t have to already know the series to love this book, but I bet fans of the series are anxious to know how things started.
The writing is very descriptive, so I can picture everything that is happening, which is surprising as you don’t see monsters with two mouths who give you fungus bites in the real world. You will feel scared and excited for the characters, especially for the main character, Hyacinth, as she traps the evil witch Queen and saves her family. It’s impossible to put down as you’ll want to figure out what is happening along with Hyacinth.
I loved Hyacinth as she has a special connection to nature and the ability to help things grow. She sees and hears things that other people miss and is braver than she thinks. I highly recommend this book to fantasy lovers and anyone who loves good writing. It may be too scary for kids under seven, but slightly older kids will love the thrill!
