The Donkey Egg
An absolute must read! One-hundred-percent hilarious!
The sneaky Fox is at it again, and this time he hopes to fool the old grouchy bear. Bear just wants to lay on his porch and not repair his farm, but the fox has just the thing he needs: a genuine, certified donkey egg that is ready to hatch. Fox tells bear how a donkey could help him repair his old farm if he had a pet donkey, so he gladly exchanges the donkey egg for twenty dollars. Bear is patient and takes care of the egg just like a mama bird, for minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months. Will the egg ever hatch? Hare checks in with Bear, but still no donkey. Egg-sitting is tiring, and Bear is so tired that he can’t seem to stay awake. Bear falls off the donkey egg, and the egg goes rolling. Hare zooms by to help Bear catch the egg, but he is too late and the egg crashes. CRACK! The egg hatched into a watermelon. Bear is sad he doesn’t have a donkey, but he and Hare realize they can plant the watermelon seeds to grow a garden. After many months, Bear and Hare take the watermelons to the farmers market and sell them. With the money from the watermelons, Bear and Hare can buy a donkey. Now Bear, Hare, and Donkey can work on the farm.
