I think that The Dessert Diaries: Kiki Takes the Cake was a great book. It is about a girl named Kiki. She is a science wiz, especially when it comes to science that involves baking. She is so good at science that she is in an advanced science group called the Supernovas for ninth graders! She is only in sixth grade! There is a popular shop called Daisy’s Desserts that makes and sells homemade baked goods. Kiki really loves it there. There is a new place called Bakery Barn that sells baking supplies and baked goods and seems like Daisy’s Desserts’s new competition. On top of that, the Supernovas get to be on a science game show, which means more stress. Now, Kiki has two things to worry about!

Kiki Takes the Cake was very interesting. I like how the main character is Jamaican. It adds another culture to the story. I also like how Kiki seems more like a real person instead of a completely fictional character. Overall, I really liked the book and recommend it for ages eight to twelve.
