The Demon Curse (Young Houdini)
Harry Houdini has been taken from his stage in New York and carried down to New Orleans because trouble was brewing there. The townsfolk who live there suspect that the islanders have put a curse on the mayor, even though the islanders are fast friends with the mayor. Billy, who is one of Harry’s friends, knows the islanders and wants to help them clear their name. He and Harry have to investigate the mayor, the townsfolk, and every possible suspect – but not everyone is willing to cooperate. Harry doesn’t know who he can trust, but he can make pretty good guesses –even if they don’t always turn out right.
This is a complicated book. It is so packed with action you can’t fully grasp what’s happening. It was fun to read about the way Harry and his friends figured out solutions to the problems, and how Harry used his magic tricks to get them out of tough situations. The way the book was written made you feel like you were actually in there, watching all the action happened, and it had a very satisfying ending. I hope this is not the last I get to read about young Harry Houdini!
