The Croc Ate My Homework: A Pearls Before Swine Collection

The comic epitome of dry humor, sarcastic animals, and grim undertones returns in a new collection focusing on the ever-hungry and ever-unsuccessful crocodiles and their unending quest to eat something other than fried chicken. The book also, to a lesser extent, features others from the Pearls Before Swine cast, such as the ignorant Pig, the demonic Rat, the supercilious Goat, and the disbelieving Zebra. The book also features some rarely seen characters, such as the Lions and the Hyenas.

This is a great collection; it greatly emphasizes the Croc’s development and evolution over the existence of Pearls Before Swine. The book also explores the relationship between the carnivores and herbivores and their fragile but workable peace, hanging mostly on the idiocy of the carnivores and the wit of the herbivores. I enjoyed being able to see entire story arcs in a few pages; as a whole, the strips could build up to larger jokes than just those that are able to portrayed in a few panels. Overall, a solid contribution to Pearls Before Swine, suitable for newcomers or die-hard fans.
