The Contaminated Case of the Cooking Contest
Clinton and Mae are kids on a cruise. They are members of G.A.S. They solve mysteries for Selectra, a girl from the future. This mystery is about food safety. People on the ship have diarrhea. Mae and Clinton travel through time using the X-PA. Clinton freezes his foot while learning about how to freeze fish. They learn about Typhoid Mary (who hits people with a spoon and threatens them with her knife). They learn about making food foamy from a cook, Ferran Adrià. (I found this person the most interesting.) The kids do a good job picking suspects. Heinz is the most interesting, because he really wants to enter the cooking contest. (He is my favorite character.) It’s exciting when Mae and Clinton almost fall off the boat. The end of the mystery is good.
Kids five and up would like this book. I will read other G.A.S. mysteries. The little stories about real people interrupt the story. They would be better at the end. I give this book three stars, because it’s too serious for me.
I learned a lot about food safety. I learned about a machine you can wave in front of food that tells you if food is safe or not safe. I learned about canning and gram staining. The most important thing I learned is: wash your hands!!!
