The Chosen Prince
Prince Alexos has been chosen by Athena to be the champion who will deliver his city from its many years of punishment. A long time ago, so far back no one can remember, the people of the city did something so terrible Zeus decided to punish them, and there had always been war between his city, Arcos, and the neighboring city of Ferra. Prince Alexos waits for messages from Athena, but suffers throughout his life from the Summer Sickness, which caused him to lose the use of his legs, and the terrible thought that his brother is dead due to his actions. He struggles with doubt because he hasn’t had any messages from Athena and doesn’t know what to do, but as the never-ending conflict between the two cities continues, somehow he must win the confidence of his people and become the king they need.
The characters were friendly and likeable, except for Alexos’s father, the king. Alexos had to work through a lot of problems, which made me feel like I could understand him. I liked how it was set in Ancient Greece, and how the people thought the gods made everything happen in their lives.
