The Black Girls Left Standing is about a young black girl named Beau Willet who has big dreams. Beau is excited for what life will bring for her as she has plans for her future. She wonders if she will ever get out of the Chicago projects that she was raised in. Things are looking up for her until she finds out that her sister has been killed by a white police officer. Beau will do whatever it takes to get justice for her sister, even if it means finding the only witness to the crime: her sister’s missing boyfriend.

The Black Girls Left Standing shows how black girls will not step down to racism or the idea of white supremacy. We are bigger than our fear. Beau’s story is a perfect example of how we will, and can, fight back against a broken system no matter the cost. I think this was a great book that many people would enjoy. It is a fictional depiction of the actual world we are living in and the message is relevant to our everyday lives. Make sure to get this book fast, I have a feeling it will be flying off the shelves!
