The Bagel King
Zaida goes to Merv’s Bakery every Sunday to get bagels. Sometimes his grandson, Eli, goes with him and gets a pickle as a special treat. Even if Eli didn’t go with him, Zaida always delivered the bagels without fail.
But one day, Eli didn’t hear Zaida knock on the door. What could have happened? When the phone rings, it is Zaida. He tells Eli that he fell down and hurt his tuches (his bottom), so he won’t be picking up bagels for a while.
Zaida’s neighbors come over for bagels, but there aren’t any. What will Eli do? He brings Zaida chicken soup every single day because chicken soup makes everything better (even hurt bottoms)! Eli notices that the moon looks like a bagel, and it gives him a great idea! Will everyone love Eli’s special surprise?
I liked this book because it is sweet. I love the relationship between Eli and Zaida. All kids should have grandparents that love them that way! The pictures are also great. This book would make a very nice gift for Grandparent’s Day.
