The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn: Manga Classics
This is a manga adaptation of Mark Twain’s famous novel. In the story, Huckleberry Finn is an orphan who is being raised by some of the women in the town who have decided to take it upon themselves to assure Huckleberry gets an education. Huck doesn’t want that. So one day, he runs off to take a raft downriver, and meets up with the runaway slave Jim. Together, they have a lot of adventures that involve a lot of unpleasant characters, but they find out a lot about themselves and really strengthen their friendship, too.
Whether you have read the original novel or not, this is an engaging and interesting adaptation. The drawings are fantastic and really help you get into the minds of the characters and into the setting at a quick glance. If you haven’t read the original, this will be a good introduction and a great way to get involved with this classic. Those who have read the original will be pleased to find how true to it this adaptation is, and it is a great refresher. Either way, it will make you want to read the original, either again or for the first time.
