Sweet Child Born in Texas
This book brings out the best of Texas. Sweet Child Born in Texas includes features such as the state flower, the state insect, and the state animal. It is written by Whitney Strauss, Susan Giles, and Kathleen Cooter. This childish book is targeted for kids ages one through four. But I think this book would be a little dull for any age kid. Although colorful pictures by Holly Weinstein show adorable insects and animals, this is a book of facts and has no characters. This book has a little of everything, from the Alamo to the Mexican bat. The Texas flag was often found, but all four times it was very small. I would not add the fact that Texas has a lot of electronics. Kids generally don’t care or understand. This educational book teaches kids about Texas and will make them proud to know about it. I sure am proud to live there! But the format was unappealing. It was an unusual book idea, but I think the authors missed an opportunity to make something more fun.
