Stubby the Dog Soldier: World War I Hero
This book is the fascinating true story of a brave dog that served during World War 1. He was a stray and a soldier fed him once. The two quickly became best friends. The dog would never leave the soldier so he started teaching the dog commands and taking the dog to trainings. The soldier was called to war and secretly took the dog overseas with him. At first some people didn’t like having a dog around, but their feelings quickly changed. Everyone grew to love him and saw how important he was.
What a wonderful story! This dog was brave, smart, and truly a hero! I was amazed that his dog was able to sense danger and alert the soldiers. Also, the soldiers were able to understand him and act to save themselves. It is clear to see that the soldiers and the dog had a special bond. My favorite part was when the dog got the enemy by the pants! I think most kids will enjoy this book. Even if you don’t like dogs, it is a sweet story about a hero that all will like. The book is slightly advanced but I think even parents will love to read this one to their kids!
