I think that Strudel’s Forever Home is a great book. It’s about a dachshund named Strudel. He ran away from his previous owner during a “calamity” and went into an animal shelter. He stayed there for a while.

Every day, a boy named Jake read to Strudel and eventually adopted him. Strudel met Jake’s family and they eventually adapted to everything. However, Strudel’s life wasn’t perfect! There were a few problems. #1: Arnie. Mom’s boyfriend, Arnie, hates…no – DESPISES Strudel! #2: Pier 67 Gang. They’re a gang of cats that mess with all the dogs for no reason! They take his food, lay on his pillow, and even attack him – leaving bloody bites and scratch marks all over him! #3: Anthony. He always bullies Jake into doing what he wants. Strudel hates Anthony because of what he does to Jake.

Strudel overcomes his problems one way or another. He also makes some dog and human friends along the way. He also forms a special band with Jake and his sister.

At the end, it’s a very surprising, but happy ending. This book was very funny, and takes you into the mind of a dog. Strudel’s like a big dog on the inside with a small dog body.

This book is also very real. It’s not like most books where they live in a major city and the characters are pampered, spoiled brats. The people are actually normal. This book has a few references with smoking and drugs so I wouldn’t recommend it to younger children.

Overall, I think that Strudel’s Forever Home was a great book and I recommend it for ages eight through twelve.
