Soulprint
In Alina Chase’s world, reincarnation is real, and she was born with June Callahan’s soul. In her previous life, she was a notorious criminal, and she’s paying for that now. For seventeen years, she has been imprisoned on a secluded island for her protection, they say. On her seventeenth birthday, she escapes with three teenagers. As she evades the police, she discovers June’s secrets and what she was truly trying to do.
Soulprint has a unique premise. I finished it in one sitting. The characters are complicated and intriguing, and I enjoyed that it adds to plot quite nicely. I was constantly surprised by what was going to happen next–it was unpredictable. However, I found that I didn’t like reading Alina’s story in the first person. It felt like everything was handed right to me, when Alina is supposed to be a mysterious character who has been secluded for so long that she no longer knows what she thinks or feels. There were also certain details that I felt could have been elaborated more, and I found myself thinking, “Oh, when did that happen?,” regarding certain information about characters. Overall, the story is excellent and I highly recommend it.
