Sonya’s Chickens
One day Sonya’s papa came home with three chicks for Sonya to take care of. Sonya tells them that she will be their mama. Sonya takes good care of her chicks, she makes sure they have fresh water, hay, and corn to eat. Sonya’s Chickens grow into beautiful hens. One night, Sonya hears squawking chickens. She goes outside to find only two hens and feathers on the ground. Sonya’s papa explains that the fox needed the chickens so it could care for his kits. Just like Sonya cared for her chickens, the fox must care for his babies too. Sonya understands why the fox needed to take her chicken.
I liked Sonya’s Chickens because it was about a little girl who takes care of her chickens. It was sad when Sonya found her chicken missing, but I liked how Papa explained that the fox needed it to feed his babies. This helped me not feel sad or bad for the missing chicken. I thought it was neat to learn that the author was home-schooled, just like me.
