Smithsonian Discover: Earth
The Earth is so complicated that this book is divided into three parts. The first section is about stuff like the continents, the climates, the layers of the planet, rocks, and glaciers. Earth has a crust made of mostly rocks, a mantle, an outer core, and an inner core. The continents were once one supercontinent, called Pangea, that split apart. The second section, which is about water, covers tides, the water cycle, the different oceans, lakes, and rivers. This part of the book explains how water travels all over the earth in the form of clouds, rain, streams and rivers, and oceans. I also learned that the moon’s gravity causes tides by pulling on the earth and the water. The third section is about the weather and how it’s caused. There are tornadoes, earthquakes, floods, droughts, hurricanes, winter storms, and thunderstorms. Read the book to find out more!
This book would be good for kids ages 6 to 10, but I already knew most of the stuff in there. I thought the projects included with the book were really good for teaching about all the cool stuff.
