Description

Gordon Korman’s newest book, Sleepless, is about five kids who don’t need to sleep. They each get to this point on their own, but find each other in unexpected ways, and after they do, they all discover the secret they have in common – no need to sleep. No one initially knows why they are this way, but by working together, they figure out the source of their sleeplessness, and things turn out right in the end. The friends’ experiences are exciting and nerve-wracking, but this is one of the things I love about Gordon Korman’s stories. Because of the situations, it is more appropriate for middle school readers to relate to and understand what the characters are experiencing. I can’t remember anymore what I might have thought before reading this story, but how I feel now is that, initially, I would probably love not having to sleep because I would treat that time much like the book characters and make progress in lots of areas, but after a while, I would miss my Saturday-morning and summer-break sleeping in.
