Secret of the Shadow Beasts
In Brannland, shadow creatures called Umbrae attack anyone who comes out at night. Only immune children can kill the Umbrae, and Nora is one of those children. But her father refused to allow her to train as a knight, so Nora stayed behind, waiting for her time to come.
Following her father’s death years later, Nora has settled into ordinary life. But when her mother nearly dies after an attack, Nora knows she must answer the call. She enlists to train at Noye’s Hill and is immediately thrown into fierce training and monster killing. But dark secrets swirl around the Umbrae. Can Nora and her new friends bring the mysteries of the shadows to the light?
I really enjoyed this book! Nora was an interesting, relatable heroine whom I loved to read about. Her relationship with her squad was sweet and believable, and I liked watching them all look out for each other. The worldbuilding was amazing! Because Nora is also new to the world of the knights, the reader gets to learn along with her. The plot moved quickly, but it was entrancing and readable. I think anyone who loves fantasy and monsters would enjoy this book!
