Sam the Man & the Chicken Plan
Sam wants a job, so he asks for a job taking care of his neighbor’s chickens. After working with chickens for a while, he wants to get a chicken of his own, and he gets a chicken that lays blue eggs. He wants his neighbor to take care of it, but he wants to make sure that he can distinguish his chicken’s eggs from his neighbor’s. It’s a while before Helga, the chicken who lays blue eggs, lays any eggs, but when she does, he brings the egg to school. His teacher shows him how he can take out the yoke but keep the eggshell whole, and then he sells the blue shells.
This is an easy book to read, and you can read it pretty fast. It had a very abrupt ending, which I didn’t like, and it is was kind of strange because he said he was going to give that chicken to a different neighbor. But I really liked the rest of it. I liked reading how Sam made his plan to earn money, which he needed to repay his dad. There was nothing magical in this book; it was a fun story about something that might actually happen.
