Running from Reality
Running from Reality is the story of the Carroways: Zeke, the director of the TV show Carried Away with the Carroways; Ruby, the best baker the Carroways know besides Mamaw Kat; Hannah, the wardrobe manager; Kendall, the thirteen-year-old cousin who wants “everything to be British;” Hunter, the boy who always gets into trouble; Uncle Wayne; Lola, the smartest one among the family; and Allie Carroway, the main character of the book. They have to escape from their reality TV show. In one part of the book, they have a choice to follow two trails—one that says “Hollywood” and is short, and one that says “Doowylloh” and is longer. I liked that part because I enjoy wordplay. In another, they find the Hollywoodlum. Who or what is the Hollywoodlum? You have to read the book to find out! My favorite part is when they have Easter on Valentine’s Day and Christmas on Halloween. I also loved the chapter names, like “Wise Guys from the East.” I thought it was neat that the book talked about God and the Bible, too. I think readers who love reality TV shows and stories about kids would enjoy this book.
