Ramayana: An Illustrated Retelling
When Rama was born, the kingdom rejoiced at his miraculous birth, but right before his coronation, an enemy schemed to get Rama sent to the forest instead. Rama left his home, taking his new wife, Sita, with him; but things in the forest were not peaceful. When Sita was kidnapped by the king of the demons, Rama had to find a way to rescue her, leading him to many harrowing adventures as well as an eternal friendship with the King of the Monkeys and the monkey hero, Hanuman.
This is a good, exciting retelling of a very old story. If you have wondered who Hanuman and Rama are, here finally is your chance to find out. The story is written so it will be interesting for any age – even younger children will enjoy hearing it read to them. You have to read it remembering that it is a legend that is centuries old; it isn’t like a modern novel. The action is very episodic, and Rama keeps having to fight bigger and bigger enemies, but there is a lot of action! There are some interpersonal interactions that are worth discussing and thinking about too.
