Platypus
Platypus is a book that is full of facts about a unique animal called a platypus. She has a bill like a duck, a body and tail like a beaver, is low to the ground like a reptile, and feeds her young like a mammal.
She spends most of her day inside her burrow, then forages at night for food. Things that are yucky to us seem tasty to a platypus, such as beetles, larvae, and worms. However, they also enjoy crawfish, which many people like to eat, too!
When the platypus feels threatened, it will hide under the water to escape potential predators. If it must fight, it has venomous barbs on its back feet that it can use to fight off an enemy! It lives on the island countries of Australia and Tasmania, where many other venomous creatures live.
The pictures in this book are amazing. It is like seeing underwater life through the eyes of a platypus. The platypus is a puzzling, strange, cool animal. If you would like to learn more about this fascinating animal, read this book!
