Piper Green and the Fairy Tree
Piper Green is a second-grade girl that lives on an island in Maine. Because her island doesn’t have a school, she goes to school on a lobster boat. The story begins when Piper decides to wear her older brother Erik’s old earmuffs to school. Unfortunately, the second grade teacher has moved away, and is replaced by a woman who looks like a princess and introduces herself as Ms. Arabella, but then two bad things happen. First, Ms. Arabella puts Piper next to a kid who makes rude noises a lot. Second, she tells Piper to take off the earmuffs. This is when the problem starts. Piper refuses to take them off and must stay in at recess. The next day, Piper pretends she’s sick, then she goes home and hides in a tree. The tree sounded like it was crying! An old lady named Mrs. Pennypocket cut off a branch of the tree, revealing a hole – and there was something in it. What was it? Read the book to find out!
This book is perfect for kids seven and up, even though older kids may find it too easy. I liked this book because of the way the author wrote it in first person.
