Peanut Butter & Jellyous: …Sometimes Friendships Get Sticky

Peanut Butter and Jellyous is a book written by Michael Genhart. Peanut Butter is friends with Jelly. I believe there is a joke in the book—“jellyous” for “jealous.” Ha ha! Did you catch that? Jellyous. Jealous. There are also a couple of other puns that are ironic. Can you find them all? This book also talks about friendship. Peanut Butter finds some other friends, and Jelly gets with Crumpet and Tea. They have a party. But Peanut Butter finds Jelly. He brings some friends like Honey. This book teaches a lesson: “sometimes friendships get sticky.” This means that friendships don’t always go exactly the way you want them to. The illustrations don’t look like the actual foods (like Rintoo from that Kai Lan show where he doesn’t look like a tiger). I loved where Peanut Butter and Jelly get together again in the end. It is a good story for thinking about the ups and downs of being a friend. Kids who are interested in social skills and kids who LOVE PB&J sandwiches will REALLY enjoy this book!
