Path to the Stars: My Journey from Girl Scout to Rocket Scientist
Path to the Stars by Sylvia Acevedo is a great book. I hadn’t read any books by Acevedo before, so this was a pretty unique experience and a treat. This book is based on the true story of the author’s life—an autobiography. Sylvia, the main character, became a Girl Scout—a Brownie and a Junior—just like me! She sold cookies, she had a uniform, and she even had a Brownie handbook—just like me! I thought it was especially interesting to read about someone else’s experience with Girl Scouts because this is my fifth year being a Girl Scout myself. Later, she joins a marching band, and ultimately she becomes a rocket scientist.
This is an excellent book for girls who like to read real stories about inspiring women who achieve amazing dreams. Sylvia was one of the few women to become a rocket scientist at NASA. Path to the Stars is an example of what girls can achieve; it also shows girls how to become a role model. Now Sylvia is the CEO of Girl Scouts—wow!
