Paris Up Up and Away is a beautiful and cheerful poem that takes place in Paris. The Eiffel Tower is bored and decides to fly away. It hovers over the peaceful river Seine, a multi-story department store, a pretty park, and even the opera house. Even though we see a lot of people, we don’t actually meet any other characters. The art in this book is made of laser cuts. The only colors are blue, black and white, but there is so much beauty in this magnificent book. In two pictures you can see rain cut outs. When the Eiffel Tower visits the opera, you can see a ballerina. In some pictures it’s raining. In others you can see the inside of buildings, which was my favorite. Behind each silhouette, there is another part of the poem. At first this was hard to remember, but I like it anyway.

I recommend this book for mature kids ages 8-11 that like calm poems and appreciate art. Careless or rough kids shouldn’t get this book because it is very delicate. This would make a good series. I would love to read about the Statue of Liberty flying over New York City next! Paris Up Up and Away was a wonderful book, and I am grateful that I got to read it.
