Orphans of the Tide (Orphans of the Tide, 1)
Orphans of the Tide is a great fantasy story about a girl fighting against injustice and her fears. In this story, Ellie discovers a boy inside a whale. The boy is immediately seized by inquisitors who believe him to be the Vessel, the host of the Enemy.
With help from Finn, a fellow street urchin, Ellie is able to save the boy, Seth, from execution. The pair discover that Seth can control the sea and Ellie decides to hide him while she runs some tests. Soon they find themselves on the run, and Ellie must do everything in her power to save herself and Seth from the Enemy and the inquisitors.
This was a very interesting story. It was very well written, and I couldn’t put it down. I liked the way that all the characters care for each other, despite most of them living hard lives. I really liked reading about the different areas of the city. I also liked all of the worldbuilding in this novel. I would recommend this book to kids in middle school and high school who enjoy reading fantasy stories.
