One Wide River To Cross
This is a book about counting, and it’s about Noah and the flood. It says animals went into his ark ‘two by two,’ ‘three by three,’ ‘five by five,’ all those; it helps you count to ten. The pictures are nice and fun, they are all dark – the backgrounds are light, but the animals are dark. They look like they have been made by stamps. There are some unusual animals, like a unicorn and a griffin, and there are lots of other animals like hippos and lions and pelicans. Sometimes, the animals are doing funny things, like the parrots are playing drums, and the elephants are doing circus tricks that elephants do.
This book is written from a song, and the music to sing the song is in the back of the book. It’s fun to look at the pictures and count the animals – by the end the page is pretty crowded when the animals came in ten by ten! Then, at the end, there is a rainbow behind the ark. This is a fun counting book for children.
