Nose Knows: Wild Ways Animals Smell the World
Nose Knows is a beautifully illustrated book. However, this book was nothing like I expected. It is full of fun facts and colorful illustrations of animals and their unique noses. The best part is the book has interactive lift the flaps that either has a fun fact, or an illustration that shows more detail or both! At the bottom of the pages are more fun facts about animals and their sense of smell. Nose Knows shows how animals use their nose for more than just to hunt for food. It is how they identify a family member, find their way home, scare off predators, know when they have entered another animal’s territory or know when it is time to mate. I think it is amazing how dogs use their noses to detect events such as knowing when a woman is pregnant. Most importantly, I learned that sharks can use their nostrils, not to breath but to smell underwater, something humans are unable to do. Shark’s sense of smell underwater helps them to find food in the water. The interactive lift the flaps making reading this book fun for almost any age!
