This book is one of the Melody books in the Beforever series. The other books in the Beforever series are Never Stop Singing and Music In My Heart. In this book, Melody is going to sing her first solo at church. Her brother dreams about being a Motown star. In No Ordinary Sound, Melody and her brother strive to reach their dreams. Will they reach them? Melody is the main character in this book. Besides singing, she likes to be with her family. The supporting characters in this book are Melody’s brother, Dwayne, and Yvonne, Melody’s friend. Yvonne goes to Melody’s church and she encourages Melody to sing.

One thing that I really liked about this book was that Melody sings very, very well. She sings a lot of different kinds of music. One thing I didn’t like about this story is that some people try to exclude other people just because they look different. There were no illustrations in this book except some pictures on the cover. I thought the illustration on the cover kind of gives you an idea of what the story might be like. A quote that I really liked from this book is “Introducing the Even More Marvelous Marvelettes!”, by Dwayne. Kids who like to sing and like to learn about our country’s history would enjoy this book.
