A family is having a picnic. There are Alfie and Emilia, their parents, and Aunt Zia. The parents are planning a vacation for the family. Dad wants to go mountain hiking, but the kids want to go to Rome, as does their aunt. While their parents are gone, they eat gumbo and are instantly transported to New Orleans! Emilia and Alfie land in a restaurant which has gone out of business. They need to help get the restaurant back in business so the people of New Orleans can eat their yummy food once more. First, they go to a baker’s shop and the baker gives them food. Then they go to a candy shop. The girl there gives them food and then they go to a mansion. The girl there gives them lunch.

I liked this book because it’s about teamwork. It has pretty pictures. I liked Emilia because she never gave up hope even when they had reached a dead end. They ate lots of yummy food like alligator tails and cakes with powdered sugar and chocolate cakes that tasted really good. My favorite part was where they found the grandmother’s friend, who cooked a lot.
