Never, Ever, Ever Ask a Pirate to a Party
Never, Ever, Ever, Ask a Pirate to a Party// is a laugh-out-loud story about a kid, trying to have a fun birthday party. Still, the narrator keeps explaining why she shouldn’t invite her friends, who happen to be a pirate, dragon, unicorn, and a ship full of aliens! There is a reason to uninvite each one of them, especially when they make a mess and cause a bunch of trouble. But, when the friends are told to leave, who is left for the party? Can there be such a thing as a birthday party with such crazy and wild friends and it still turns out all right?
This story made me laugh on every page – when a reason is given of why not to invite that friend, it is because they do something funny! However, it’s not funny when it is ruining the party and the experience for the other friends. I enjoyed that the problem was fixed, and everyone understood how to have a good time together while being themselves and acting nicely. This story has some similarities to Don’t Ask a Dinosaur and the When You Give a Mouse a Cookie series. Younger readers will enjoy the story because it is magical and imaginative.
