Nefertiti, the Spidernaut
The best thing about this story is that it is true! There was a jumping spider named Nefertiti and she went into space. Scientists wanted to know if a jumping spider could catch its prey in space because jumping spiders need gravity to catch their prey. In this experiment, they made a habitat and put fruit flies in it and water in a different place in the habitat, and then they put in Nefertiti. Then they sent the capsule into space. A woman living on the International Space Station took care of the spider and watched how it hunted. At first, Nefertiti couldn’t catch the fruit flies but then she learned a new way of hunting. When she got back to Earth, she learned how to hunt again the old way.
This was really amazing! It told you a lot of new things, and you learn about how scientists do their experiments, and also some of the problems that spiders might have in space. You also see how spiders are really smart and that they can figure out problems that you might not think they can figure out. This book is really interesting, especially if you like science.
