My First Book of Soccer: A Rookie Book: Mostly Everything Explained About the Game
This book is put out by Sports Illustrated For Kids. This book is all about the basic ideas in soccer. This book is kind of interesting because, even though it doesn’t have a story plot, it does kind of have a plot because you learn about soccer as a soccer game is played! To help you understand the game of soccer, there are cartoon characters (I don’t know their names) as well as photographs of real soccer players. They teach you about the terms and skills of the game of soccer. For example, on one page, you learn what a “substitution” is in soccer. This is not a substitute teacher, but a player on your team who comes into the game when another teammate goes out of the game. You learn how and why this happens. One neat thing about this book is that, instead of having page numbers, there are numbers in the upper right corner of pages that tell you how much game time has gone by. Did you know there are 90 minutes in a soccer game? Little kids probably don’t have to play that long. I liked this book because I think I might enjoy playing soccer someday.
