My Feelings and Me
This book is about the feelings we have. There are some feelings that are good to show, such as joy. Some feelings seem less good to show loudly, such as anger. Some are hard to express, for example when you are jealous of someone. Or when you are so furious that not even stomping your feet on the ground will be enough.
The book says that one is afraid that nobody will like them when bad feelings are shown. I actually know that people like your parents love you all the time. Maybe your friends won’t like you as much in that moment. It is good to look at your feelings and to say something about it. I don’t agree that sometimes it is hard to show your feelings because of feeling ashamed. I just don’t want to talk about them sometimes, and I want to think about them all by myself.
I think this book is better for little toddlers who still do not know about their feelings. I know all about them, and I do not agree with some things in the book.
[Note from mom: Brian attends a school with a curriculum of social / emotional intelligence. He’s been exposed to a lot of conversations and coaching around feelings, and he felt this book contradicted some of that. So it was hard for him to review it with an open mind.]
