My Brilliant Idea (And How It Caused My Downfall)
My Brilliant Idea (And How it Caused My Downfall) centers on Jack. He is a lazy teenage boy who doesn’t like to do his schoolwork or listen or do much of anything on his own. One day he gets an idea to make an app that helps you not get in trouble in class for daydreaming. The story then revolves around Jack trying to persuade a girl named Elsie to help him make the app. But in return, Jack has to get a picture of a naked boy for her. Jack uses other people and keeps getting into more and more trouble trying to figure out how to get the picture for Elsie. It makes me wonder why he didn’t just learn how to make the app himself. His relationship with his parents is pretty bad; no one listens to anyone else. I didn’t read the whole book. I thought it was so inappropriate and base. The book is meant for early teenage readers close to Jack’s age, but the idea of getting a picture of someone naked is completely inappropriate for that age (or any age). My hope for the book would be that somehow Jack eventually learns how to take responsibility for his actions instead of manipulating others into doing his work for him. I didn’t like this book at all and would not recommend it.
