Mr. Wolf’s Class
Mr. Wolf’s Class by Aron Nels Steinke is about a fourth-grade teacher. He teaches and is new at Hazelwood Elementary. His students are mostly well behaved, except for Sampson, who likes to run in the halls. And there is the sleepy Penny, who is exhausted because her baby brother’s crying keeps her up all night. There’s a rat problem at the school, which adds to Mr. Wolf’s stress. Azia is the typical shhhhhhhhh! student who wants everyone else to be quiet and be focused when the class is doing their work.
The book captures the typical classroom. The pictures are well drawn, but the plot isn’t exciting for me. It might be more exciting for a fourth-grader, though! In one part of the book, a lion goes into Mr. Wolf’s class, and he takes a stapler. Mr. Wolf catches him, and the lion says that he didn’t take anything, and we never found out if the lion really did take the stapler. Stuff like that makes the book less fun to read. I think it was really good for the author to make a whole class of kids so it feels more like a class and a school. This book would be good for kids from eight to eleven.
