Monstrous Affections: An Anthology of Beastly Tales
Are you a fan of stories on the slightly darker side of the magical scale? (And by darker, I mean more monsters than fairies and princesses) If so, then this is the book for you. Filled with fifteen short stories from various authors (including Cassandra Clare), and with creatures like kraken, vampires, aliens, demons, ghosts, and more, it will certainly be a delightful read. Better grab a flashlight. These things are best read in the dark.
Actually, I never did get to read this book in the dark. Regrettably, I started reading when I woke up in the morning, and then I finished before the sun even went down. But I imagine it would be awesome to read these stories by flashlight, curled under the blankets.
I’ve been a fan of strange and supernatural stories like these ever since reading Percy Jackson—the first real book I ever read by myself, and still a favorite. So when I saw this book, I just knew I had to read it. And it was, more or less, just as good as I’d hoped it would be. There were a few stories that I was blah about, but most were great.
