Monsters in the Briny

Monsters in the Briny is a story of a pirate ship on the water with a bunch of sea creatures and monsters who come out and do not nice things to the crew and ship. The creatures include a kraken, sea goat, serpent, giant turtle, and hydra who are feeling grumpy, messy, sick, sad, and hungry.

The pirate crew must help them feel better so that they don’t do too much damage to their ship and make them sink. On one page the crew wonders what to do with the creature, and then on the next, they do something to help them feel better, but then on the next, their ship is getting hurt by the creature! Can they help them all without sinking to the bottom?

It was fun to read about the sea creatures. I hadn’t heard of them all but enjoyed learning about them both in the story and at the end of the book. It was fun to read the story both regularly and then with the music that goes with it. The pictures are colorful and the story is easy to understand except for some bigger words for me. It’s not scary, so any kid will like reading Monsters in the Briny!
