Miss Mary’s Christmas Mittens
Miss Mary’s Christmas MittensTrinka Hakes’s Apple Tree Christmas is an all-time favorite, so I was pretty sure that I would like this no matter what it was about. The illustration style of Miss Mary’s Christmas Mittens is not classic, it feels very much modern to match where the story takes place. It is kind of disappointing that the pictures don’t match up with the numbers since it seems like a really fun number idea for the book. The first three times we see pictures of Miss Mary’s class, there are exactly ten kids in the book, which means ten pairs of mittens for a total of twenty mittens, but then later it says she’s making twenty pairs, and then at the end, there are thirteen kids in the picture, so it’s kind of annoying and confusing. It just wouldn’t have been that hard to show twenty kids in class. Maybe kids who don’t really pay attention will like this book, but everybody else will probably want to take a pen to it so they can like it better.
