Mei-Mei is a little girl. Today is her birthday! She is turning six today. She is going to make the good-luck birthday noodles with her mom, for her party. Mei-Mei came from China when she was a baby, so now they are celebrating. Mei-Mei helps to make the noodles. First she gets out the wok for her mom. It’s a big huge pan with a round bottom that looks like a huge bowl. Her mom puts in the meat and the oil, and then Mei-Mei puts in the carrots and mushrooms and water. Her mom cooks noodles, then puts them in the pot too. When it’s done, it is called Chow Mein, and Mei-Mei loves to eat it! She eats it with her family when they come to her party.

My favorite part of this book is when the noodles are done, because it has mushrooms. I like the pictures of all the food, and I like when Mei-Mei gets in her red dress. It is fun to see how she has her birthday and how she makes her birthday noodles!
