Marty’s Mission: An Apollo 11 Story
Marty’s Mission is about a boy named Marty who was listening to the blast off of Apollo 11 on the radio with his friend Tomás. Marty’s dad works at NASA at the tracking station, and he was waiting for his dad to come home after the Apollo mission. When Marty’s dad calls, he told Marty and the rest of his family to watch the moon landing. When Apollo 11 landed on the moon, the families listened to the astronauts for several hours. After Armstrong and Aldrin jump around on the moon for two hours, Marty and the others went home. Marty’s mom wakes him up, telling him that his dad needed help with an antenna.
I liked Marty’s Mission, but it was not my favorite book. I found that the illustrations were not detailed enough. I did enjoy the story because it was about the Apollo landing. I actually read this book the day before I went to the Houston Space Center and learned about the Apollo missions. I would recommend Marty’s Mission to kids aged five through eight years old who might like space or want to be astronauts.
