Marlene, Marlene, Queen of Mean
This book is about a girl named Marlene. Marlene is not very nice to any of the other kids at school. She pinches, kicks, flicks, and blocks the way so other kids can’t get through the door to the toilet! In the beginning of the book, all of the kids are afraid of her. Then one day, a boy named Freddy asks why they all act so afraid of Marlene. He explains that because everyone is afraid of her, they are letting her win and be powerful. He tells the other kids that if they aren’t afraid of her anymore she will not be in charge. Marlene decided that because it was not going to work to be anymore, she would need to change. She became a nice friend, most of the time. It took her awhile to learn new ways to be nice because being mean was much easier.
This book had words that rhymed, and it was fun to read. I really liked this book and the illustrations. This would be a good book for a teacher to read if they had a student who was not being nice to other kids. I think all kids would like this book.
