Magic on the Map #1: Let’s Mooove!
When a camper shows up in front of your house because your dad traded the family car for it, what do you do? Roll your eyes and groan because you don’t want to go on a long road trip with your parents? No, you go on an adventure, of course! But not just any adventure–an amazing adventure with a Planet Earth Transporter (PET) that lives inside the camper. In the story, two kids go from their home in Ohio to Colorado to help out with a cattle drive and try to rescue a special cow. Along the way the kids learn about life out in the wilderness and about helping others while having fun.
In Magic on the Map: Let’s Mooove!, Courtney Sheinmel and Bianca Turetsky tell us about young twins Molly and Finn Parker, whose dad just traded for the magic RV. I say magic because this book reminds me of the Magic Tree House series, which I love. This book is like that series because of the two kids and the magic travel. But PET says that it is not a time machine, so it looks like there won’t be any time travel going on in this series. But they get to travel a lot of places anyway.
The writing is good. We don’t know much about the twins yet and when they talk, it seems kind of weird. And they sometimes fight like brothers and sisters do in real life. But the story was fun and I got to learn some stuff about cows and horses, too. I think this book would be good for kids who like the Magic Tree House series and are young readers. Even younger kids can enjoy this book, too, if their mom or dad reads it to them.
